  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 3 tbsp gel food coloring (red & blue)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened

Instructions

  1. Cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Mix in the vanilla extract.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt; gradually add this mix to the butter mixture until fully combined.
  3. Divide the dough into three portions. Leave one plain, color one red, and the other blue using gel food coloring. Wrap each portion in plastic wrap and chill for one hour.
  4. Roll out the white dough into a rectangle on parchment paper, followed by rolling out the colored doughs. Layer them carefully with white on the bottom.
  5. Roll the layered dough tightly into a log shape. Wrap in plastic wrap again and chill for another hour.
  6. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Slice the chilled log into pinwheels about half an inch thick and bake for approximately 10 minutes or until edges are golden.
